Couch to Summit: Fall 2023

Welcome to this exciting course designed to empower you with the necessary physical and skills training to conquer your first mountain ascent! Throughout the program, you will gain comprehensive knowledge in various areas, including basic first aid, nutrition, and map/compass skills. We have carefully curated each section of this course to provide you with an informative workbook and engaging training materials, ensuring you stay both informed and entertained throughout your journey. Get ready to embark on this adventure and reach new heights!

  • In-person training at Cobbs Hill Park Mondays for 8 weeks
  • Includes both physical skills & physical training
  • Starts September 4 at 7:00pm and runs through October 30th
Who is this course for:
  • Beginner hikers and aspiring mountaineers
  • People interested in getting outside
  • Anyone willing to put in the effort and commit to 2-3 hours per week of training
What you’ll need for training:
  • Comfortable Shoes (hiking, trail running, etc)
  • Weather-appropriate exercise clothes (think gym clothes)
  • Backpack (most backpacks will work for training, will discuss other options in week 3)
  • Water Bottle (any water bottle will work)

Week 1: Clothing for Mountaineering / Workout 1
Week 2: The 10 Essentials / Workout 2
Week 3: Backpacks & More / Workout 3
Week 4: Nutrition & Hydration / Workout 4
Week 5: First Aid / Workout 5
Week 6: Navigation/ Workout 6
Week 7: Putting it All Together / Workout 7
Week 8: Good First Peaks / Workout 8
